...never the less King Saul, in his wretched, backslidden state, consulted with the witch of Endor in hopes of receiving comfort and instruction from God’s deceased prophet, Samuel.

The question has always been asked if the witch had actually conjured up the prophet Samuel or if it was simply a demonic apparition claiming to be Samuel. Let’s answer the question very simply…

First, God would NEVER violate His express command in Scripture, so we can rule out the witch of Endor as the source for the manifestation of Samuel (and it WAS Samuel, verse 12, 14, 15 etc.) for this and one other reason…A careful reading of the text reveals that she never actually asked (or conjured) Samuel to come up! He came up at SAUL’S request in verse 11, which actually startled the witch in verse 12…she screamed! She was used to conjuring up satanic imposters…those she recognized, but THIS entire situation was different!

God performed a miracle in the presence of a witch and a fallen King to discredit the medium, prove His authority over the living AND the dead and to provide an answer to King Saul from someone only he would respect and hear it from…Samuel.

Sadly, Saul no longer had a relationship with God in that God would not answer him! (verse 6) The moral of this story is that a fruitless, self-centered life, yields tragedy both in our life and in the lives of our relationships! When God is the center of our life and work and we are in contact with him on a daily basis then we don’t have to seek His counsel or advice from anyone or anything! We can enjoy an intimate and loving relationship with the Creator of the universe through prayer and devotion to His word! ❤
